Small Business Week 2018 Full of Events for Local Businesses

HALIBURTON HIGHLANDS, ON, September 25, 2018: With the mission to provide resources, tools and support for small businesses, the Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce is holding six events during Small Business Week.

Small businesses make up 98% of all businesses in Ontario, provide two-thirds of private sector employment and represent over 3 million employees across Ontario. In the Haliburton Highlands, small businesses are truly the backbone of the economy, employing our neighbours, friends and families.  “It is our goal to do everything we can to support our local businesses and provide them with great resources they can use to help them succeed,” says Richard Wannan, President of the Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce.

Workshop: Facebook 101

Cost: FREE
Overview: This workshop, co-hosted with the Haliburton County Development Corporation, will provide participants with a step-by-step guide on how to create and operate a Facebook page for their business, including posting, updating, growing, and reviewing the growth and success of the pages using Facebook analytics. Space will be extremely limited. Participants are expected to bring their own laptops to participate and are welcome to stay after the workshop to take part in a webinar about social media marketing.

Overview: This seminar will provide participants with an overview of all social media platforms, including facebook, Instagram, twitter, pinterest, google plus, and youtube. There will be a focus on digital marketing strategies for each platform, as well as a review of the pros and cons of each so that participants can decide which would best fit the needs of their businesses.  There will also be a review of the Constant Contact email marketing platform.

Panel Discussion: Mental Health and Business

Overview: Join us for an OCC/WSIB sponsored event where a panel of experts will discuss mental health in the workplace at a panel discussion about current trends and strategies for building strong mental health in the workplace.  This is a multi-chamber event is hosted by the Bancroft, Coboconk and Area, Fenelon Falls, Haliburton Highlands and Lindsay Chambers of Commerce, so it will be a great opportunity to expand your network and learn from business owners facing the same challenges you are!

Overview: This workshop will provide participants with an overview of the barriers related to disability and accessibility in the online world, a review of requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, introduce business benefits of having an accessible website, and provide some quick and easy tests to determine the level of accessibility on your current website.
