The fundamental responsibility of Directors and officers is to represent prudently the interests of the Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce, direct the business affairs of the organization and apply the by-laws.

Ideally, the role of the Board is seen as “developing philosophy, policy and long range plans and directing the staff” of the operation of the Chamber.

Board members are entrusted with the role of ensuring the organization is governed effectively. They are elected or appointed to make certain that the organization and its Board have the necessary structures and processes in place effectively manage day-to-day operations.

Directors are usually elected because of their interest in the Chamber, their standing in the community, and their capacity to be unbiased and objective.

The Board of Directors is comprised of a maximum of thirteen eligible Chamber Members, elected by the membership to serve the members for a 2 year term on a voluntary basis. Directors are required to sign an oath of office and are bound to a confidentiality agreement.
